PREFACE

This Code constitutes a republication of the general and permanent ordinances of the County of Marathon.

Source materials used in the preparation of the Code were the Marathon County Code, as supplemented by ordinance or resolution through May 25, 1999. The source of each section is included in the history note appearing in parentheses at the end thereof. The absence of such a note indicates that the section is new and was adopted for the first time with the adoption of the Code. By use of the comparative table appearing in the back of this Code, the reader can locate any section of the Marathon County Code, as supplemented, and any subsequent ordinance included herein.

The various sections within each chapter have been catchlined to facilitate usage.

Chapter and Section Numbering System

The chapter and section numbering system used in this Code is as follows: The figure before the point refers to the chapter number, and the figure after the point refers to the position of the section within the chapter. Thus, the second section of chapter 1 is numbered 1.02, and the first section of chapter 6 is 6.01. Under this system, each section is identified with its chapter.

Page Numbering System

The page numbering system used in this Code is a prefix system. The letters to the left of the colon are an abbreviation which represents a certain portion of the volume. The number to the right of the colon represents the number of the page in that portion. In the case of a chapter of the Code, the number to the left of the colon indicates the number of the chapter. In the case of an appendix to the Code, the letter immediately to the left of the colon indicates the letter of the appendix. The following are typical parts of codes of ordinances, which may or may not appear in this Code at this time, and their corresponding prefixes:

Index

Each particular item has been placed under its chapter heading or cross referenced under another heading to stand as a guidepost to direct the user to the particular item in which the user is interested.

Looseleaf Supplements

A special feature of this publication is the looseleaf system of binding and supplemental servicing of the publication. With this system, the publication will be kept up-to-date. Subsequent amendatory legislation will be properly edited, and the affected page or pages will be reprinted. These new pages will be distributed to holders of copies of the publication, with instructions for the manner of inserting the new pages and deleting the obsolete pages.

Keeping this publication up-to-date at all times will depend largely upon the holder of the publication. As revised pages are received, it will then become the responsibility of the holder to have the amendments inserted according to the attached instructions. It is strongly recommended by the publisher that all such amendments be inserted immediately upon receipt to avoid misplacing them and, in addition, that all deleted pages be saved and filed for historical reference purposes.

ORDINANCE NO. O-3-96

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE GENERAL ORDINANCES
OF THE COUNTY OF MARATHON, WISCONSIN

WHEREAS, it is deemed expedient and necessary that the General Code of the County of Marathon be brought up-to-date; and

WHEREAS, ordinances and resolutions adopted through Res. #R-78-95, dated September 24, 1995 and changes necessitated by changes in State law have now been incorporated into the General Code; and

WHEREAS, a copy of such amended Code has been on file and open for public inspection in the office of the County Clerk for not less than 2 weeks, as required by § 66.035, Wis. Stats., and notice thereof was given by publication on March 8, 1996, in the Daily Herald;

NOW, THEREFORE, the County Board of Supervisors of the County of Marathon ordains as follows:

Section 1. That the Code of Ordinances in book form entitled, "General Code of the County of Marathon, Wisconsin," as amended, shall be and hereby is adopted as the general ordinances in and for the County of Marathon, Wisconsin.

Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect the day after passage and publication as provided by law.

WHEREAS, ordinances and resolutions adopted through Res. #R-6-93, dated January 26, 1993, and changes necessitated by changes in State law have now been incorporated into the General Code; and

RESOLUTION NO. 14-86A

ORDINANCE NO. 286

AN ORDINANCE TO CODIFY THE GENERAL ORDINANCES
OF THE COUNTY OF MARATHON, WISCONSIN

WHEREAS, it is deemed expedient and necessary that the general ordinances of the County of Marathon, Wisconsin, be revised, codified and arranged in appropriate chapters, sections and sub-sections; that omissions be supplied, defects be amended and new ordinances be enacted; and that the same be published in book form to make the whole thereof plain, concise, intelligible and convenient; and

WHEREAS, on December 20, 1983, the County Board authorized the preparation of a code of general ordinances for the County; and

WHEREAS, a copy of such code has been on file and open for public inspection in the office of the County Clerk for not less than 2 weeks, as required by § 66.035, Wis. Stats., and notice thereof was given by publication on January 27, 1986, in the Wausau Daily Herald;

THEREFORE, THE COUNTY BOARD OF THE COUNTY OF MARATHON, WISCONSIN, ORDAINS AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. That the code of ordinances in book form entitled "General Code of the County of Marathon, Wisconsin," a copy of which is on file in the office of the County Clerk for public inspection, shall be and is hereby adopted as the general ordinances in and for the County of Marathon, Wisconsin.

Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect the day after passage and publication as provided by law.
